Baseball – Catch-up!

Baseball – Catch-up!

Has been a whirlwind of a baseball season playing double headers and 5 games a week… so here we go…

Games 3/4 vs Mound Westonka

Kyle Calder took the loss in game 1 of this double header 10-0

JJ Strumbel took the loss in game 2, 7 – 5

Games 5/6 vs Litchfield

Todd Traen took the first game loss for the Rockets  9-1.  JJ broke up the no-hitter Litchfields Swanson had going into the 5th.

Luke Pepin took the loss for Rockford in game 2, 11-4

Game 7 vs Maranatha Christian

Maranatha was sporting a VERY young team this year, seemed like several possibly Junior High players.  They simply were no match for a roster loaded with seniors.  Kyle Calder got the first win of the season for the Rockets beating Maranatha 15-2.

Game 8 vs Holy Family Catholic

Kyle Calder got the prior game walk-over vs Maranatha… not so lucky for JJ.  Instead he got to go head to head  with powerhouse Holy Family Catholic.  JJ started the game brilliantly keeping the Holy Family Fire scoreless thru 3.  Then in the 4th inning the Fire got to JJ scoring 3 runs.  JJ was pulled from the game and in the end the Rockets fell again 5-3.

Game 9 vs The Blake School

Christian Swanson took to the mound vs the Blake School keeping them off balance for the first couple innings, then the Bears got accustomed to the sweeping curve and started to T-off on him.  In the end Kyle Calder in relief took the loss walking in a bunch of runs (unusual for Kyle) 13-8.

Games 10/11 vs Watertown-Mayer

JJ Strumbel headed to the mound for Game 1 vs Watertown and pitched a shutout thru 3 innings, but then game up 1 in the 4th, and then finishing it out clean in the 5th.  The Rockford bats came alive in this game and that was all it took, 10 running the Royals 13-1 in 5 innings.  JJ got his first win of the year 13-1.

Kyle Calder on short rest took to the mound for Game 2 and was knocked out of the game quickly.  Kyle struggled hitting his targets and the Royals pounded the ball all over the field on him.  The Rockets battled back behind an array of pitchers, but just couldn’t pull it out.  In the end Kyle took the loss 11-9.

So that gets you up to date!

The Rockets are currently 2-9 and sitting in 7th place in the conference (of 15) and 10th place in Section 5AA (of 16).

IF Section Playoffs were to start today we would start against Norwood-Young America (assuming that Holy Family would get a first round bye since it appears Brooklyn Center is not playing this year ???… dunno, no record for them).

That’s it!

Stay tuned for more info as we get it!
